AT&T Fiber Review
AT&T Fiber pairs equal upload and download speeds with unlimited data and top satisfaction scores, but its advertised prices lean on discounts that expire.
Key takeaways
- AT&T lists Internet 300 at $50, 500 at $60, 1 Gig at $70, and 5 Gig at $110 a month (checked Oct 30, 2026), with autopay and paperless billing.
- Part of that price is a 12-month speed-tier discount: $5 off 500, $10 off 1 Gig, and $15 off 5 Gig. Expect the bill to rise by that amount in year two.
- AT&T says Fiber delivers equal upload and download speeds, includes unlimited data, and includes a Wi-Fi gateway at no extra cost.
- AT&T Fiber scored 79 in ACSI's 2026 study, the top fiber score and six points above the all-ISP average.
- You keep AT&T's gateway but can run your own router behind it using the gateway's IP Passthrough setting.
The short verdict
If AT&T Fiber reaches your address, it is one of the strongest options in its footprint. AT&T's fiber page, checked October 30, 2026, lists plans from $50 to $110 a month with equal upload and download speeds and unlimited data.
The trade-off is pricing clarity. The advertised rates stack an autopay discount and a 12-month promotional discount, and AT&T's pages do not describe a multi-year price lock.
This review uses AT&T's plan pages, offer terms, and guarantee page, plus third-party sources opened on October 30, 2026. We have not used the service.
AT&T Fiber plans and prices
AT&T's main fiber page lists four tiers. Its local plan pages describe uploads as equal to downloads on each tier.
| Plan | Download / upload | Advertised price | Price before discounts | Extras listed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Internet 300 | 300 / 300 Mbps | $50/mo | $60/mo | None |
| Internet 500 | 500 / 500 Mbps | $60/mo | $75/mo | None |
| Internet 1000 | Up to 1 / 1 Gbps | $70/mo | $90/mo | 3 months YouTube TV, $100 reward card |
| Internet 5000 | Up to 5 / 5 Gbps | $110/mo | $135/mo | 3 months YouTube TV, $100 reward card |
Prices from att.com, checked October 30, 2026, plus taxes and fees. AT&T says pricing and promotions vary by address.
AT&T's main internet page also lists a 2 Gig tier, but we did not find its price on the pages we opened. Check your address for it. AT&T notes that 5 Gig has limited availability, and a single wired device tops out at 4.7 Gbps.
How the discounts work
The gap between the two price columns comes from two discounts in AT&T's offer terms. Knowing which one expires tells you your year-two bill.
- Autopay and paperless billing: $10 a month off. AT&T's terms say this requires a bank account or AT&T Points Plus Citi card. With a debit card the discount is $5, and other credit cards get nothing.
- Speed-tier discount: 12 months only. AT&T lists $5 off Internet 500, $10 off 1 Gig, and $15 off 5 Gig, starting within three bills. You must keep the qualifying tier.
Using AT&T's own numbers, here is what the bill looks like once the 12-month discount ends, assuming you keep autopay from a bank account:
| Plan | First 12 months | After 12-month discount ends |
|---|---|---|
| Internet 300 | $50 | $50 (no tier discount) |
| Internet 500 | $60 | $65 |
| Internet 1000 | $70 | $80 |
| Internet 5000 | $110 | $125 |
This is arithmetic from AT&T's published discounts, not an AT&T quote. It also assumes AT&T does not change its base rates, which its terms of service allow with notice.
AT&T lists an extra $15 to $25 a month off fiber for customers with an eligible unlimited wireless plan, with matching names and addresses on both accounts.
We found no multi-year price guarantee on AT&T's fiber pages. AT&T's consumer terms say it may change rates or fees, with notice for materially adverse changes.
Speeds and reliability
Fiber's main advantage over cable is upload speed. AT&T's fiber FAQ says it delivers equal upload and download speeds. That means a 500 Mbps plan uploads at up to 500 Mbps, versus 20 to 35 Mbps on typical cable tiers.
That gap matters for video calls, cloud backups, creators, and anyone running a camera system or server at home. Our fiber vs. cable guide covers the technical reasons.
AT&T's speed claims are for wired connections. Its support pages note that older routers may not support speeds above 1 Gbps to a single device, so check your Wi-Fi gear if you buy a multi-gig tier.
The AT&T Guarantee
AT&T's guarantee page offers a full-day credit for fiber outages of 20 minutes or more. Each extra 24 hours earns another day, and credits cannot exceed your monthly internet rate.
The credit requires an AT&T-provided gateway. It excludes power outages at your home, weather, cut cables on your property, and announced maintenance. AT&T says it decides at its sole discretion whether an outage qualifies.
Fees, data caps, and terms
| Item | What AT&T says | Page |
|---|---|---|
| Data cap | None; all fiber plans include unlimited data | AT&T Fiber page |
| Wi-Fi gateway | Included at no extra cost | AT&T Fiber page FAQ |
| Installation | "$0 self or tech install" in a comparison table; a local plan page says up to $99 may apply | AT&T Fiber page; AT&T local page (Brice, OH) |
| Annual contract | None on fiber pricing | AT&T Internet page |
| All-Fi Pro (optional) | $25/mo plus taxes; described as Wi-Fi 7 | AT&T Fiber page |
| Cost recovery charge | A monthly State Cost Recovery charge applies in Ohio; AT&T says it is not government-required | AT&T local page (Brice, OH) |
All items checked October 30, 2026. The two installation statements differ, so confirm the fee in your order summary. State and local surcharges vary, which is why the broadband label for your address matters. Our internet bill fees explainer covers how these charges add up.
Promotions
The $100 reward card is for new residential customers on 1 Gig or higher. AT&T's terms require redemption within 75 days and 90 days of paid service.
The three free months of YouTube TV renew automatically at the then-current price unless you cancel. AT&T's local page listed that price as $82.99 a month.
Gateway and using your own router
AT&T Fiber does not use a modem you can buy. The fiber line connects to AT&T's gateway, which is included at no extra cost.
You can still use your own router. A common approach is the gateway's IP Passthrough setting, which hands the public IP address to your router. Engineer Jeff Geerling documented this setup with a BGW320 gateway on a multi-gig plan.
Two caveats from his write-up and AT&T's terms:
- The gateway stays in the path and may still apply its own filtering.
- Outage credits under the AT&T Guarantee require AT&T-provided gateways, so keep it connected.
Our ISP router vs. your own router guide covers when replacing the Wi-Fi is worth it.
