Is It CGNAT? A Home Internet Troubleshooting Checklist
Troubleshoot CGNAT, double NAT and other reasons inbound connections fail.
A game server, remote camera feed or home-hosted service can fail even when a connection has plenty of download speed. The root cause may be CGNAT, double NAT, port blocking, IPv6 configuration or application settings.
What to document
- Identify what inbound service is failing and whether it requires IPv4.
- Compare router WAN information with the public-facing address using a reputable checker.
- Look for two routers performing NAT in the same home network.
- Ask the ISP about public IPv4, IPv6 and supported inbound-access options.
Compare the written terms
Do not disable firewalls or expose administrative interfaces merely to make an application reachable. Consider secure remote-access methods and verify exactly what risk each option introduces.
Plan the next step
If changing providers, confirm the relevant network feature with the provider before signing. Sales descriptions of speed rarely establish inbound connectivity support.
A helpful comparison records the source and date for each claim, distinguishes estimated costs from written offers, and makes uncertainty visible. Keep copies of relevant documents. If a statement is time-sensitive, confirm it directly with the responsible institution or provider rather than relying on a cached result or a sales summary.
Make the decision with enough time to check alternatives. If medical or legal questions affect personal safety, treatment or rights, consult a suitably qualified professional familiar with the specific circumstances.
Editorial note: Verify current specifications, rules and prices with the relevant official source or provider.
