Spectrum Internet Review

Spectrum has no contracts or data caps and a cheap first year, but the internet-only price roughly doubles in year two.

Key takeaways

  • Spectrum lists Internet 100 at $30, Internet 500 at $40, 1 Gig at $60, and 2 Gig at $80 a month for the first year (checked Oct 30, 2026).
  • After year one, Spectrum's broadband disclosure lists standard rates of $50, $85, $105, and $125 for those tiers.
  • There are no data caps, no contracts, and a $0 early termination fee. The modem lease is listed at no charge.
  • Advertised uploads on Internet 500 and 1 Gig are 20 and 35 Mbps unless your area has been upgraded to symmetrical speeds.
  • Activation is $20 and professional installation is $50, per the same disclosure.

The short verdict

Spectrum is easy to start and easy to leave. Its internet page, checked October 30, 2026, lists first-year prices from $30 to $80 a month with no contract, no data cap, and a modem included.

The catch is year two. Spectrum's own broadband disclosure lists standard rates that are well above the promotional ones. Budget for the second-year price, or plan to renegotiate.

This review draws on Spectrum's plan pages, its broadband disclosure, its modem policy, and third-party data opened on October 30, 2026. We have not used the service.

Spectrum plans and first-year prices

Spectrum's speeds page lists four internet-only tiers. Each includes one Spectrum Mobile unlimited line free for a year.

PlanDownloadYear-one priceWi-Fi add-on
Internet 100100 Mbps$30/moAdvanced WiFi optional, $10/mo
Internet 500500 Mbps$40/moAdvanced WiFi optional, $10/mo
Internet 1 Gig1 Gbps$60/moAdvanced WiFi included
Internet 2 Gig (select areas)2 Gbps$80/moInvincible WiFi included

Prices from Spectrum.com, checked October 30, 2026. Spectrum says speeds up to 7 Gig are available in select areas.

Bundles with longer price guarantees

Spectrum ties its longer locks to bundles. Its speeds page lists a 2-year price guarantee on Internet plus Mobile and a 3-year guarantee on Internet plus Mobile plus TV.

For example, Internet 500 plus two mobile lines is listed at $90 a month, and 1 Gig plus mobile at $100. Those totals include the mobile service, so compare them against what you pay your current carrier.

Advanced WiFi is not free on the cheaper tiers

On Internet 100 and 500, Spectrum's Advanced WiFi router service costs $10 a month extra. You can skip it by using your own router behind Spectrum's modem.

What happens after year one

Spectrum's internet page says that after one year, standard rates apply. It does not show those rates there. Its broadband disclosure does.

PlanYear-one priceStandard rate in disclosureDifference per month
Internet 100$30$50+$20
Internet 500$40$85 (includes Advanced WiFi)+$45
Internet 1 Gig$60$105 (includes Advanced WiFi)+$45
Internet 2 Gig$80$125 (includes Invincible WiFi)+$45

Both columns checked October 30, 2026. The disclosure also lists Internet 7 Gig at $185 where available.

On Internet 1 Gig, that is $720 in year one versus $1,260 in a year at the standard rate. If you plan to stay, set a calendar reminder for month 11. Our guide to lowering your internet bill covers how to ask for a retention offer.

Spectrum announced a "Customer Commitment" in September 2024 that included bundle price guarantees of up to three years. The guarantee in that announcement applied to bundled pricing, not to internet on its own.

Download and upload speeds

Download speeds are strong. Spectrum's broadband disclosure lists typical measured speeds at or above the advertised tier. Uploads depend on whether your neighborhood has been upgraded.

The symmetrical upgrade

Charter, Spectrum's parent, is rebuilding its cable network for faster uploads. Its second-quarter 2026 earnings release, filed with the SEC, says it has launched symmetrical internet in several markets and expects to finish the work in 2027.

RSINC, an independent comparison site, reported that early symmetrical markets include Cincinnati, St. Louis, Dallas-Fort Worth, Louisville, Lexington, Reno, and Rochester. Until your area is switched over, expect the 20 to 35 Mbps uploads above.

If you upload large files or work from home on video all day, this matters. Our fiber vs. cable guide explains the difference.

Fees, data caps, and contracts

Spectrum's fee schedule is short and published. These figures come from its broadband disclosure, checked October 30, 2026.

FeeAmount
Service activation$20
Professional installation$50
Modem or gateway leaseNo charge
Advanced WiFi$10/mo (included on 1 Gig and above)
Invincible WiFi$30/mo (included on 2 Gig and 7 Gig)
WiFi extender$5/mo each
Late feeUp to $8.95
Declined auto payment$5
Early termination fee$0

The disclosure also notes that installation and activation are free in multi-dwelling properties.

Data caps

None. Spectrum's internet page says "No data caps," and its disclosure lists no charge for additional usage. One exception: the disclosure notes reduced speeds after 100 GB a month on Invincible WiFi, without further explanation on that page.

Contracts

Spectrum lists no contracts on internet plans and a $0 early termination fee. Its internet page also advertises a 30-day guarantee.

Equipment and your own modem

Spectrum includes a modem at no extra cost on current plans. Its disclosure says legacy-package customers may still be charged for a modem but can move to a current plan.

Can you use your own modem?

Yes, with limits. Spectrum's DOCSIS modem policy says customer-owned modems must be authorized for its network. It sorts approved devices into two tiers:

The approved list is posted at spectrum.net/modems. Check it for your exact model before buying.

Is it worth it?

The modem lease is already free on current plans, so buying your own modem saves little. The better saving is skipping Advanced WiFi on Internet 100 or 500 by adding your own router. Our ISP router vs. your own router guide runs that math.
